This Quercegobbe is certainly no exception, which in the glass has a very concentrated ruby red colour. The nose reveals a broad bouquet of great appeal, with notes of jammy blueberries, dried raspberries, black cherries in syrup, prunes, myrtle, rosemary, liquorice, cinnamon and pepper. In the mouth it is dense, rich, soft, with round, silky tannins and a calibrated freshness. The finish is persistent and consistent with the perfumes on the nose. This is due to the ageing of about 12 months in 20% new barriques. This passage in wood gives the wine greater complexity and structure, as well as smoothing out the tannins and making them softer. Colle al Fico, we read on the winery's website, is one of the best estate crus of cantina Petra. The name derives from the toponym of the vineyard where the Syrah grapes used in purity in this wine come from. The vineyard is located in San Lorenzo. Here the vines have an average age of 17 years and grow on clay-limestone soil. The hot Tuscan climate is mitigated by the sea breeze, which gives the wine a great minerality. Syrah, originally from the Rhone Valley in France, has found a second home in the heart of Tuscany. The grapes, harvested by hand only when fully ripe, are skilfully processed with great attention to fermentation temperatures. The wine produced is left to mature in the cellar for a period of no less than one year in Slavonian oak casks and, to a small extent, in barriques. The result is a wine characterized by an intense ruby red colour. To the nose, red and black fruit dominate over everything, leaving room only for a slight spiciness due to the expert aging in wood. On the palate, however, it is well-structured. Justly tannic and pleasantly long finish.
